TREMBLE CLEFS FOUNDER HONORED FOR 25 YEARS OF SERVICE TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE
San Diego, CA – April 05, 2019 – The Parkinson’s Association of San Diego, will recognize Karen Hesley, President and founder of Tremble Clefs San Diego, for her 25 years of service to people living with Parkinson’s Disease, at their Sunset Soirée event titled “Knock Parkinson’s Out of the Park.”
Karen is a speech-language pathologist with degrees in linguistics and communication disorders. While working at the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Arizona, she provided Parkinson’s patients with the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, also known as “LSVT LOUD.”
In 1994, she established the original Tremble Clefs Program in Scottsdale, AZ, a weekly chorus that offered voice therapy, movement and a social community for people living with Parkinson’s Disease. After moving to San Diego County in 2001, she established additional choruses in central San Diego, Rancho Bernardo and Encinitas. Tremble Clefs San Diego, Inc. was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in 2016 and has grown nationally with additional choruses in Arizona, California, Massachusetts, Missouri and Washington. Free weekly rehearsals include a professional choral director and accompanists that allow the chorus to perform regularly out in the community for seniors, veterans, support groups, charities and demonstrates the power of song and what can be accomplished by people living with the disease.
In her twenty-five years of service, Karen continued “Fighting Parkinson’s One Song at a Time,” which is the official Tremble Clefs’ organization tag line. Hundreds of people with Parkinson’s, their families and caregivers have been helped and inspired by her vision, enthusiasm and hard work, while thousands of people have enjoyed the fun of listening to and joining in a sing-a-long performance.
